Kőbánya Brewery
Kőbánya Brewery
Tickets can be purchased at the Budapest Autumn Festival customer service exclusively in advance.
Budapest is a good place for rambling. And if you don’t simply follow the routes recommended by the guidebooks to visit the tourist sights, it can be very exciting too. Thanks to the Contemporary Architecture Centre [KÉK], those interested in architecture and the history of the city can satisfy their curiosity and thirst for culture this year with visits to two out-of-the-way places. The two venues are in a similar state and situation: run down and inaccessible to the average person. One is the No. 1 plant of the Kőbánya Brewery with the malt house and its striking chimney and the Dreher family’s villa. On the guided walk participants can learn about the history and construction of these two architectural curiosities, then at the end of the tour enjoy a dance performance or a contemporary music production created for the unusual venue.
Co-organized with the Contemporary Architecture Centre.

Founded in 2006, Royal Bones, the Danish circus company has highly skilled members who are equally trained in circus, dance, theatre and music. The play is directed by Lars Rudolfsson, who is possibly the most influential figure in Swedish music theatre, and has worked both with the ABBA and the Royal Swedish Opera. In this work with Royal Bones, whole artists can prove their talents in every second of the play, he evokes Shakespeare’s world with phenomenal artistes and musicians drawn from strange fairy tales and king dramas. Goblins, kings, traitors and magicians, mad lovers and spleeny princes fill Rudolfsson’s stage in the production that is a truly magnificent spectacle but difficult to define through its genre.
Co-organized with Trafó - House of Contemporary Arts.

A day devoted to a single person, but one about a multitude of musical and artistic worlds. Because Frank Zappa [1940-1993] was not only an exceptionally gifted musician, drummer and guitarist, but also a composer, band leader, producer, graphic artist and film director. He wrote music for rock and jazz groups, for symphony orchestra and electronics, he directed short films and video clips, he designed his own record covers that acquired cult status and his own inimitable facial hair.
The Autumn Festival is evoking one of the most versatile figures in music history, the legendary daredevil of 20th century music, with leading Hungarian and foreign performers [including Zappa’s former fellow musicians].

The Hungarian cabaret is celebrating its 100th anniversary. It was in 1907 that Endre Nagy created, or to be more exact, naturalised this art form in a venue called Bonbonnière. His name became synonymous with cabaret in the following decades; so much so that people went to what they called the „nagyendre” in the evenings. Péter Kárpáti’s new drama recalls this world and its creator, who was deprived of his theatre at the height of success, and even betrayed by his company. Kárpáti’s play has not been written as celebration, or as a documentary, or even as a taste of art history. The backbone of the story is made up of the personal drama, the tragedy arising from discrepancies of talent and ambition, as well as the never fading stories of intrigue and betrayal behind the scenes.
Co-organized with Örkény Theatre.
